Department of Mechanical Engineering

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

At North Carolina A&T State University, we’re all about helping you launch your future. Whether you're into building innovative machines or dreaming of flight and space exploration, our department is here to prepare you for exciting careers in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering—and beyond. We’ll also get you ready for grad school if that’s your next step.

Our Bachelor of Science (BS) programs in Mechanical Engineering (MEEN) and Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering (AAEN) are designed to do more than just teach you the basics. We want you to:
  • Build a strong foundation in math, physics, and core engineering principles.
  • Dive deep into your major—whether it’s mechanical systems or aircraft and spacecraft design.
  • Learn how to solve real-world problems using hands-on tools like simulations, experiments, and design software.
  • Develop the skills to design and innovate with safety, sustainability, and cost in mind.

Within a few years of earning your degree, you’ll be ready to:

  • Take on leadership roles in engineering or related fields—or even start your own company.
  • Work on diverse teams to tackle real-world challenges.
  • Communicate your ideas clearly to different audiences.
  • Make ethical, sustainable decisions that positively impact your community.
  • Keep learning and stay up-to-date with the latest tech.
  • Think globally and solve problems in our interconnected world.

With a degree from N.C. A&T's MEEN or AAEN programs, you'll be ready to jump into careers in design, testing, development, and research; technical marketing and engineering management; government agencies like NASA or the Department of Defense; or top companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and GE Aerospace.

While enrolled, you’ll also have access to internships and co-ops that give you real-world experience before you even graduate. And if grad school is your next move, you’ll be well-prepared for top programs around the world.
