EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 17, 2020) — One event can change a life forever, which is what four young girls from Newark, New Jersey discover after a night on the town in the big city.
“This One Girl’s Story,” is based on the startling true story of Sakia Gunn, a 15-year-old lesbian who was brutally murdered in the West Village of New York City in 2003. With the anticipation of a fun night, they set out from Newark not knowing the hate that was lurking in the shadows.
Inspired by the tragic death of Gunn, this story will evoke emotional turmoil in many who see it as the characters search for justice, equality and validation. With a book and lyrics by Bill Wright and music and lyrics by Dionne McClain-Freeney, this powerful musical combines R&B, jazz, gospel, and hip-hop to sing a tale of love, friendship and courage.
