N.C. A&T Lyceum Series to Host Grammy Award-Winning Saxophonist Kirk Whalum

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s Lyceum Series, in collaboration with the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) University Jazz Ensemble, is set to host an evening of soulful jazz featuring Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum. This event, open to the public, will take place Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in Harrison Auditorium, 1009 Bluford St.

Five N.C. A&T Students Complete FutureSole PLC powered by Nike Masterclass

Five students from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University completed the FutureSole PLC powered by Nike Masterclass, a five-week intensive design program at the Pensole Lewis College (PLC) of Business & Design in Detroit. This program offers in-depth training to help the next generation of historically Black college and university (HBCU) students gain real-world experience in footwear, fashion and design.

Two N.C. A&T Journalism Students Selected as 2024 Chevrolet Discover the Unexpected Fellows

Mattie Moore and Kayla Hare, two multimedia journalism students from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, have been selected as 2024 Chevrolet Discover the Unexpected (DTU) Fellows. They are two of only 10 students from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) nationwide chosen for this fellowship.

N.C. A&T Professors Selected for 2024 Greensboro Residency for Original Works

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University professors La’Toni Cromes and Kimberly C. Harper, Ph.D., were selected for Creative Greensboro’s 2024 Greensboro Residency for Original Works (GROW). The program provides an “open flex space for Guilford County-based creative individuals and organizations to produce new and original works that encourage visitation and engagement by the public.”

Three students from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JOMC) – sophomore Kennidi Cottle and seniors Santroya Pitzer and Bria Williams – were selected to participate in the University of Georgia’s seventh annual Myra Blackmon AdPr Academy for Diversity & Inclusion one-week intensive seminar in Atlanta.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University multimedia journalism student Jaydn James recently presented her innovative research study, “How Consistent Blue Light Exposure Affects the Circadian Rhythm (Sleep Patterns) Among Journalism Students,” at the Black Doctoral Network (BDN) Undergraduate Research Poster competition in Atlanta. James’ research was selected earlier this year among abstract submissions from talented students across the nation.

University Galleries to Host 2023 Alumni Art Exhibition with Featured Artist Jackson ‘21

The University Galleries at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will host the 2023 Alumni Art Exhibition during its homecoming celebration. Set to present a diverse range of styles, subjects and mediums, the group exhibition will showcase alumni artists from the university’s Visual Arts Program. The exhibition’s opening reception is Thursday, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m., and will be on display through Dec. 13.

University Galleries Hosts New Exhibition, “Flash Fiction”

The University Galleries at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is hosting “Flash Fiction,” a new exhibition of collages from artist, Natalie Schorr. The exhibit features personal narratives of gender roles, psychological introspection and spiritual reflections. The opening reception is Thursday, Aug. 31. The exhibition will be on display through Oct. 13.

Common Thread Theatre Collective Presents “How to Make an American Son”

The Common Thread Theatre Collective, a joint venture between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Davidson College, will present “How to Make an American Son,” a new play by Christopher Oscar Peña and directed by Holly Nañes. The hard-hitting drama explores what happens when the American Dream collides with the reality of immigration and family. Performances will begin Friday, July 14, at Barber Theatre on Davidson College’s campus.

N.C. A&T’s National Award-Winning Richard B. Harrison Players Closes Season with “Dreamgirls”

The powerhouse musical “Dreamgirls,” with book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, is one of the most celebrated American musicals of the 20th century. It is a sweeping and inspirational journey through American pop music that chronicles one Motown girl group’s rise from obscurity to superstardom. Inspired by the stories of R&B’s popular superstars, including The Supremes, James Brown, and the roster of artists that helped change the landscape of popular music in the 60s and 70s, “Dreamgirls” is a true depiction of the music business.

University Galleries to Host Noted African American Artist and Gallery Owner to Discuss the Importance of African American Art Galleries

A&T Alumnus Sanders Selected as Target HBCU Design Challenge Winner

KeShawn Sanders, an alumnus of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, was selected as one of three inaugural first place winners of Target’s HBCU Black History Month Design Challenge. He received a $1,500 cash prize, an Apple MacBook Pro, the opportunity to engage Target senior design leaders, an Adobe Creative Cloud two-year membership as well as his winning design featured on T-shirts and tote bags available for purchase on Target’s Black Beyond Measure website.

University Galleries to host Artist Bryan Collier Virtual Exhibition and Program

The University Galleries at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, will open the virtual exhibition, “Rosa: The Works of Bryan Collier” highlighted by a virtual program on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m., featuring Collier. The artist will discuss his work as an acclaimed artist and African American children’s book illustrator. The virtual program will be facilitated by noted actress and author, Angela Ray, and is free and open to the public through registration.
