A&T’s fashion merchandising and design (FMD) program, launched March 11.

A&T to Lead “Ag Tech Corridor” Project with $1M from National Science Foundation

Starting this spring, N.C. A&T will lead a project that aims to break that bottleneck. Funded by a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines, Goins will lead a team of university, N.C. Cooperative Extension, business and research partners in developing a plan to share information and technology faster and more broadly across the state by building an “ag tech corridor” from central North Carolina to the east.

N.C. A&T Researchers Developing AI-based System to Make Driving More Predictable, Safer

A research team in the College of Science and Technology at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has conducted a pilot project using models available through Microsoft’s Azure Open AI Service to develop a system that will lead to advancements in traffic management using physic informed deep learning. The pilot, led by principal investigator Leila Hashemi-Beni, Ph.D., and applied science and technology doctoral student Tewodros Syum Gebre, received support from Microsoft under the company’s “Accelerating Foundation Models Research” (AFMR) collaboration.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small made her inaugural visit to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to see firsthand the ways the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES) is using the federal agency’s funding to advance programs, research and scholarships. She also came to bring good news: USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) will invest nearly $1 million in a new A&T project to help advance environmental justice in agriculture through its Agricultural and Food Research Initiative (AFRI.)

Solomon Bililign, Ph.D., a professor of physics at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, co-organized the “Together for cleaner air in Ethiopia” international conference held at Addis Ababa University. N.C. A&T Professor Contributes to State of Climate Report, Efforts Addressing Climate Change

More than 570 scientists in over 60 countries contributed to the 2022 State of the Climate Report, which revealed “Earth’s greenhouse gas concentrations were the highest on record, heatwaves shattered temperature records across the planet, the Arctic was warm and wet and the ocean heat and global sea level were also the highest on record,” among other findings.

Common Thread Theatre Collective Presents “How to Make an American Son”

The Common Thread Theatre Collective, a joint venture between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Davidson College, will present “How to Make an American Son,” a new play by Christopher Oscar Peña and directed by Holly Nañes. Performances will begin Friday, July 14, at Barber Theatre on Davidson College’s campus.

N.C. A&T, LANL Study Optical Properties of Aerosols from African Biomass Fuel Burning

Research teams from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico have initiated the first phases of the African Combustion Aerosol Collaborative Intercomparison Analysis (ACACIA) pilot study. The project titled “Studies of optical and chemical properties of aged and fresh biomass burning absorbing aerosols for climate models” is funded by the Department of Energy.

The powerhouse musical “Dreamgirls,” with book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, is one of the most celebrated American musicals of the 20th century. It is a sweeping and inspirational journey through American pop music that chronicles one Motown girl group’s rise from obscurity to superstardom. Inspired by the stories of R&B’s popular superstars, including The Supremes, James Brown, and the roster of artists that helped change the landscape of popular music in the 60s and 70s, “Dreamgirls” is a true depiction of the music business.

Three A&T Researchers Aim to Solve AI Reliability with $493K DOD-NSA Award

N.C. A&T’s Center of Excellence Recognizes Women Faculty in Manufacturing, Launches Academy

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women made up approximately 29 percent of the manufacturing workforce in 2020. Data show this trend has been consistent over the last five decades, seeing a peak at 33 percent in 1990. The Center of Excellence in Product Design and Manufacturing (CEPDAM) at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University recently launched a new academy to recognize and further enhance support of women faculty and students in the field.
