EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Nov. 11, 2020) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University announced Li-Shyung “Lily” Hwang, Ed.D., has been named director of institutional research in the Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OSPIE), effective Nov. 16.
“With her extensive experience, Dr. Hwang is well-suited to lead our efforts to support our institutional units in planning, assessment, research and analytics in order to meet our effectiveness goals,” said Provost Beryl McEwen, Ph.D., executive vice chancellor for academic affairs.
OSPIE’s mission is to foster university effectiveness, including student success, by providing data and analysis for evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning. It supports student learning assessment, the development and evaluation of academic programs, and institutional accreditation.
Before joining A&T, Hwang established the institutional research office at Georgia Gwinnett College, a member of the University System of Georgia, and served as its director for nearly 14 years. She was responsible for a full range of institutional research functions, from strategic planning to daily operations that included developing and maintaining strategic plans, infrastructures and processes, validating and maintaining institutional databases, and supporting upper-level decision-making processes, program reviews, assessments and accreditation efforts.
Hwang has more than 20 years of applied educational research experience in serving different educational organizations, including two-year, four-year, public and private postsecondary institutions and a state-level education department. Her specialties include data management, analytics, business and content knowledge, and data visualization through various institutional research projects.
Hwang earned her B.Ed. in home economics education from National Taiwan Normal University and her M.S. in adult education and Ed.D. in adult education with interdisciplinary minors in sociology and statistics from North Carolina State University.
