EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Jan. 30, 2026) – The University Galleries at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will host “I AM: Portrait Series” on Thursday, Feb. 5, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Dudley Memorial Building, 202 University Circle.
Presented as part of N.C. A&T’s ART Your Lunch! Curator’s Gallery Talk Series, “I AM” explores self-actualization, identity, and the rite of passage through a collection of self-portraits and community portraits.
Jordan T. Robinson ’14, a multidisciplinary artist, storyteller and community advocate based in North Carolina, will lead the talk. His work examines past experiences, beliefs and emotions, using written reflections haloing around the head and color to reveal both the seen and unseen layers of a person.
“Through I AM, I explore how our thoughts, feelings, and actions shape not only who we are, but how we connect to each other and the world around us,” said Robinson. “Each portrait is a reflection of personal experience and the shared narratives that ripple through our communities.”
Robinson graduated from A&T’s visual arts program with a concentration in media design. He earned his M.A. in arts administration from Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Center for Visual Arts in Greensboro, Visual Arts Exchange in Raleigh, North Carolina, The Artist’s Bloc in Greensboro and High Point University, among others. He has also curated exhibitions at the Center for Visual Arts, Guilford Technical Community College, Creative Greensboro and the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The “I AM” series is divided into three sections: I AM Me, self-portraits exploring internal thought, emotion, and identity; I AM You, community portraits developed through participant journaling and personal storytelling; and I AM Us, capturing how individual actions ripple through shared experience. Originally focused on self-exploration, the series has expanded to include collaborative portraits highlighting diverse BIPOC and LGBTQ+ voices. Each work embodies reflection, vulnerability and the interplay between personal and collective narratives.
The ART Your Lunch! series launched in spring 2025, introducing diverse themes in art and bringing engaging conversations to both the university and surrounding community. This event is free and open to the public.
University Galleries hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday by appointment. Admission is free. Group tours are available.
